Develop and maintain effective Collaborative Business Relationships  (to ISO 44001:2017)

Chester Corrie Consulting offers a range of developmental activities; the primary offer is its popular and successful one-day ISO 44000 Awareness Training Courses (already delivered to 100+ companies).

These courses whether delivered on a one-to-one basis or for groups up to 10 people (larger audiences by negotiation) cover all eight components of the capability model used across all 3 of the ISO 44001/2/3 standards.  Understanding these components is the foundation for building your collaborative capability.

Ultimately, these ISO 44001/2/3 Awareness Training Courses assist you in achieving ISO 44001/2/3 accreditation for your company.  All courses are run by Robert Hopkin who is an ISO 44000-accredited trainer, facilitator and auditor as well as being a Member of the Institute for Collaborative Working (MICW).

Collaborative Business Relationships & ISO 44001

Collaborative Working can make the sum of the parts exceed the whole, it demands and expects trust and commitment from all involved in the collaboration. More than this, is the requirement for all participants within the collaboration to be 'open' to working creatively, to be 'open' to adopting different or new ways of working, to be 'open' to mutually supporting each other to achieve the additional value and innovation that Collaborative Business Relationships bring.

Chester Corrie Consulting has a series of ISO 440001 Awareness training courses from a one-hour senior executive briefing, through to a one-day course aimed at those needing a more in-depth knowledge of the standard.  The reference document for all courses is ISO 44001:2017.

The first part of your ISO 44001 journey is to raise you (and your teams) awareness of the standard and what it demands by way of evidence (if only to then decide not to pursue it); the standard has 8 stages as per the diagram - a sensible place to start your journey is to address the 'Awareness' challenge through our ISO 44001 Awareness training courses.

If you need further help with gaining ISO 44001 accreditation, Chester Corrie Consulting can signpost you to trustworthy, experienced facilitators able to help you further.

Team Development

Do you know what defines a team from a group? If you do, then 'great' you are already on our way!

However, do you know your 'Resource Investigator' from your 'Shaper', or your 'Plant' from your 'Implementer'??

These are just four of Belbin's nine Team Roles; if you want to find out more about Belbin's Team Roles, see www.belbin.com/about/belbin-team-roles/ that said, simply guessing which Team Role(s) you think you are can be very, very different from the truth - so, book an assessment now!

With a simple paper-based or on-line assessment, you can find out more about what makes you and your team 'tick'.  This 'knowledge' will be invaluable in developing you/your team's overall strengths and capability - ultimately improving overall performance. Such information helps in assigning personnel to tasks, as well as informing your/their self awareness.

Our one-day programme, whether as a one-to-one coaching input or a group session for up to 10 people (larger audiences by negotiation), will help reveal your most suitable preferences for team roles.

Robert Hopkin is an accredited Belbin Team Roles Facilitator and Practitioner.

Developing Self-Awareness

Do you know how you come across to other people?

Do you and/or your team understand how they come across to their colleagues in times of pressure or conflict?

To be brutally honest, there are many personality profiling tools out there and some are better than others.  We use a world-renowned system called Strength Deployment Inventory (or SDI for short - see www.corestrengths.com/products/assessment/ for more information).

This profiling tool identifies your core motivational system when you are operating in a normal everyday work/home setting; however, it also analyses 'where you go to' when you experience conflict or increased pressure. The results from using this instrument are really informative and effective at establishing and building stronger teams for the day-to-day challenge with a deeper understanding of each other's core motivational systems when it comes to handling conflict.

This programme can be delivered within half a day and on can be delivered either on a one-to-one basis, or in small groups/teams of up to ten people (larger audiences by negotiation).

This instrument can also be used with strong results in domestic relationships - if you are (all) brave enough!

Coaching and Mentoring for Leadership and Followership Development

Leadership. Some of us are born leaders (or believe they are - trust me I've worked for a few!) and some of us have been trained as leaders (me for example!); for some, it is a mix of the two. Now is perhaps not the time to further the age-old Nature Vs Nurture debate for Leadership - simply as I believe it is far too simplistic an 'ask' (that's just my personal view garnered from my experience as a leadership practitioner and trainer at the strategic, operational and tactical levels for over 30 years).

Back to reality, through executive one-to-one coaching and personal mentoring (two very different approaches), we use the well established 'GOAL' model for leadership coaching, simply as it is easily understood and, most of all, it is effective.

That said, much of this development has to come from within so, whilst we at Chester Corrie Consulting are able to guide, inform, nurture and occasionally cajole ... the ultimate responsibility for the majority of the development is very much on the individual! This is not a cop out - it is the reality. It is (usually!) a really good day when a coachee says to me, "I don't need you anymore".

Followership. What about those who don't lead? Not all of us are leaders, or are comfortable at leading, or have any desire to be a leader.

So, what can we do to make more followers into more effective resources to their leaders?  Our solution is to promote effective and good value Team Building and Team Development activities - generating meaningful and effective communication horizontally across teams, and vertically up and down line management (or, as we military types call it, the 'chain of command').

Our Followership Building Programmes for audiences of up to 30 participants includes short 1-2 hour interventions using classroom and practical exercises aimed at developing communication and collaboration competencies.  We use activities from established expert providers of activities in this field RSVP (see www.rsvpdesign.co.uk) which we have delivered to home and international audiences - most recently to the Singapore Metro's young graduate engineers as part of their post graduate education programme run by Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (University of Birmingham).

Entering the Railway Supply Chain

Robert's last military tour was a NATO tour as the Director of Support at the NATO Programming Centre in Glons, Belgium. This post saw him lead on Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) Management, Computer Security (COMPUSEC), Information Security (INFOSEC), Operational Security (OPSEC), Counter Intelligence, Facilities Management and, most importantly, overseeing the running of the Tax Free Shop (!) and the Staff Restaurant! You might think there was enough challenge in that post; however, he had grown itchy feet and left the Royal Air Force in 2009 with loads of happy memories and many 'unique' experiences.

Along with another military colleague (Coilin Flack OBE) he led the development of a disruptive trade association called the Rail Alliance from start up to becoming the largest of its kind in the UK by membership.  The legacy of the Rail Alliance is still visible in the way that the remaining rail industry trade associations highlight the need for SMEs to be taken seriously and for them to have a voice.

So how can I sell into the Railway Supply Chain?

It is fair to say that the railway sector is a tough sector to crack ... although, once 'in', it can be lucrative! More than ever, the railway is ready to learn from other sectors - so, now is a good time to be looking at rail!  Robert can help with generic or specific business-related enquiries with respect to the railway supply chain including offering a 2-day 'Get into Rail' programme.
